Irish Aid

Irish Aid is the Government of Ireland’s programme of assistance to developing countries. In 2006 Housing for Boaco applied and was successful in obtaining a Grant from Irish Aid worth 50K Euro to part fund our Housing Project.

At Housing for Boaco we are very proud of our involvement with Irish Aid.

Irish Aid works in cooperation with governments in other countries, other donors, NGOs and international organisations as part of the global effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. These targets, agreed by the UN at a series of international summit meetings, identify some of the main causes of extreme poverty in today’s world and underpin the poverty reduction policies and activities of Irish Aid.

The Millennium Development Goals require the international community to:
• Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
• Achieve universal primary education;
• Promote gender equality and empower women;
• Reduce child mortality;
• Improve maternal health;
• Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases;
• Ensure environmental sustainability;
• Develop a global partnership for development

In 2007 together with our American Partners we built a Secondary school in Empalme de Boaco.
This school opened in Feb. 2008 and as expected too many kids (279) showed up for school. After a few difficult days the Teachers and Administrators and The Nicaraguan Department of Education got the situation under control and everyone was catered for.
This explosion of students pushed forward our timeline for construction of Phase 2 of this school.

We are very happy to report that following a successful Fund Raising Concert in Nov 2007 and the agreement we have just received from Irish Aid to co fund this project ,we are now in a position to complete Phase 2 of this school.

Education is WANTED and education is a HIGH PRIORITY for people living in this community in Empalme de Boaco as it is the only way for a better future for them.
